Parking will be availble in the grass to the west of the transition area in chandler park, you will get a good spot.

KIDS RACE - TRIATHLON (AGES 10-14)

250 YARD SWIM / 3.4 MILE BIKE / 1 MILE RUN

SWIM COURSE:

250 yard course begins in the water at the yacht club boat launch, swims around two markers in the water (keep buoys and lane line on left), and exits water on the sandy beach at the Sail Fin Club to the north of the boat launch. 

BIKE COURSE:
The 3.4 mile bike route is an out and back course. It stays within the park, except a short segment close to the the first turnaround, which is on Lake Shore Drive. It is mostly flat but includes a couple small rolling hills and a long, steep hill in both directions. 
An ANSI approved helmet must be worn at all times when on the bike and bike number and helmet number provided at registration must be visible.
The participants will exit the transition area at the BIKE OUT exit, and mount the bike at the mount line, then ride along Lake Front Road through the parking lot near the Lake Patrol building. Participants will ride up a hill to Lake Shore Drive, turning to the east (right turn). The route follows Lake Shore Drive to the east until just past the Rte. 36 overpass. Participants will turn around an orange cone and return.
Participants will follow signage and volunteer instructions to turn left (south) at the Beach House parking lot entrance and ride down hill with a right turn back onto Lake Front Road. Course returns on the same route, passing the transition area and following Lake Front Road to a turnaround cone at the road’s dead end. Bike course continues back on Lake Front Road toward the Transition Area.

Athletes will ride to DISMOUNT LINE, as directed by volunteers, immediately before the Transition Area. Participants will run or walk bike into transition area through the BIKE IN entrance.

ABSOLUTELY NO RIDING WITHIN THE TRANSITION AREA. Bikes must be walked or run through this area.

Participants should stay to the right on the roadways.

Volunteers will be monitoring the course.

Bikes must be racked in athlete’s designated rack space before beginning the run segment.

RUN COURSE: 
1 mile course begins in transition area exit marked RUN OUT. Athletes will run along Lake Front Road following course marking and volunteers’ directions until the turnaround cone near the boat launch. Course returns on the same route, finishing at the finish line chute.

KIDS RACE - DUATHLON (AGES 5-8)

.5 MILE RUN / 1.5 MILE BIKE / .5 MILE RUN

RUN 1: 
.5 mile course begins at the starting line on Lake Front Road near the Transition Area. Participants will follow course markings and volunteers’ directions until the turnaround cone. Course returns on the same route. Participants will follow volunteers’ instructions and enter the transition area at the RUN IN entrance.

BIKE COURSE: 
The 1.5-mile bike route is an out and back course within Nelson Park. 
An ANSI approved helmet must be worn at all times when on the bike, and bike number and helmet number provided at registration must be visible.
Once the participants have exited the transition area at the BIKE OUT exit, and mounted bike at the mount line, they will ride along Lake Front Road and through the parking lot between the Lake Patrol building and the Beach House restaurant. Participants will circle the lot and return on Lake Front Road. Course returns on the same route, passing the starting line and transition area and following Lake Front Road to a turnaround at the road’s dead end. Bike course continues back on Lake Front Road toward the Transition Area to the DISMOUNT LINE, immediately before the Transition Area. Participants will run or walk bike into transition area through the BIKE IN entrance.

ABSOLUTELY NO RIDING WITHIN THE TRANSITION AREA. Bikes must be walked or run through this area.

Participants should stay to the right on the roadways.

Kids Race timeline

5:45 am       Race registration/packet pick-up/body marking, Transition area opens

6:00 am       Lifeguard/safety meeting

6:15 am       Guards on the water/lake open for swim warm-up

7:00 am       Park roads closed to all vehicle traffic / Swim warm-up closes

7:05 am       Pre-race meeting for all athletes, meeting at transition area/finish line

7:30 am       2017 Decatur Lakeside Kids Triathlon/Duathlon begins with 10-14 Triathlon and 9-                         14 Duathlon start. 5-8 Duathlon follows when all older athletes cross the finish line                            and volunteers are reset.
